A pregnant mother who is still breastfeeding in the home is using a range of resources, from the maternity clothes she has to the supplies she uses to feed her babies.
Here’s a look at some of the options available for women breastfeeding in India.
First Aid Basics, the leading non-profit in India that runs medical and social services for pregnant women, has a collection of maternity clothes for breastfeeding mothers.
These clothes are available at the Indian women’s hospital in the country’s capital, Delhi.
“There are maternity clothes available for breastfeeding,” said Dr. Anjali Pandey, founder of First Aid Basics.
“But the first thing we suggest is that the mother is breastfeeding and needs a breast pump.
If the baby is hungry, we suggest that the mom is breastfed as well.”
A baby’s first breastmilk needs to be washed with soap and water, washed with water, and then washed with plain water, Dr. Pandey said.
If she’s breastfeeding, the mother needs to use a special hand sanitizer, like the brand Alpina, to wipe the breastmilks surface.
Dr. Parag Nandan, an expert on maternal health at the University of Chicago, said the breast pump is the best choice for the first year of breastfeeding.
“It will allow the baby to get his or her first suck and will be a safer option for the mother,” he said.
First aid basics also sells a maternity shirt, and is offering free samples to mothers of babies born to mothers who breastfed in India’s most populous state, Assam.
The shirt, which is about 4 inches wide and 5 inches long, is available at various retailers across the country.
“If you are a pregnant woman who is breastfeeding, you are using these as a support system for the baby,” Dr. Nandan said.
“There is a lot of information about the best way to breastfeed, and the shirt is the first time that a pregnant mother has been able to do this.”
Women who breastfeed are expected to be careful and attentive during the breastfeeding process.
If a baby becomes hungry or tired during the feeding process, the mom can also use a hand sanitiser to wipe his or herself.
Dr. Nanda said that the best time for breastfeeding in a hospital is the beginning of the first day of the baby’s life.
“You have to be on the lookout for a lot more problems before the baby starts to feel better, so that you can have the best chance of having a good breastfeeding experience,” he added.
Dr Nandan also said that in most of India, breastfeeding mothers have to nurse for about six to eight hours, and most are lucky to get a few minutes with the baby at a time.
“I’m always amazed that women who have been breastfeeding in hospitals can nurse for such long periods of time,” he explained.
“This shows the power of a good mother.”
First Aid has been working in India for more than 20 years, but it started out in Mumbai and now operates in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune.
“We are a non-governmental organization that is based in India,” Dr Nandan added.
“We have a very broad spectrum of women, and it’s a really diverse country.
The women are diverse, but they all share a common goal.”
