Woman accused a man of burning her in a hijab in an alleged “honour killing” in a remote village in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday.
Ritu Devi, 27, was arrested on Monday and is facing murder charges after allegedly killing her husband and father-in-law, according to police.
The incident took place in the village of Moti village near the village city of Moga on Saturday evening, police officials said.
The victim, a husband and a father-of-two, was found dead inside his house and his body had been burnt, police told AFP news agency.
According to a statement by the district administration, the couple was engaged in a dispute over the property.
Rival groups have been claiming the couple’s deaths for years in a series of protests.
Police have registered a case of murder, and have launched a probe into the matter, they said.
